For those of our members who are confused about the style of dance he or she are doing, our Defining the Dance section might be of use. Here, you will find detailed definitions of dance styles of forms, and the parameters that create those definitions. You will find definitions of Fusion Dance, Synthesized Dances, Tribal Synergy, and guidelines defining raks sharqi and its off-shoots and inspired-by forms, in Bellydance Perspectives and A Dance by Any Other Name. .

Or start with our Operational Definitions (Op-Defs) to enter the dance world, to better understand the site.

In Defining the Dance you will also find an introduction to dance standards, which are covered in even more detail in each level category in the Movement Handbook in another section on this site. The Movement Handbook offers many descriptions of movements from raks sharqi, Tribal Synergy (pre-ATS), Am/Cab, Fusion and folkloric/folk dance, and covers head, arm, torso, pelvic and hip work as well as full bodywork. It includes shimmies, veilwork, floorwork and more. In addition, it offers suggestions for layering, movement combinations and zilwork.
And yes, in time we hope to have videos illustrating the movements.

To enhance your learning even further, be sure to visit the Teacher’s Primer section, which offers an entire gamut of training, starting with how to determine if you should teach and how to create a business plan, to how to operate your studio and develop lessons and curriculum for your studio as well as how to put on a recital and more.

In the Professional Tools section, you will find articles for every level from student to dancer to teacher.

Over 2017, we will be adding Workshops to the site that teachers can use and tailor for their own needs as well as offering free Choreography for group work in the class and in performance, as well as Folkdance costume and dance notations on the site.

We are certain there is something of value here for every student and dancer, as well as teachers- so join our journey into dance and enjoy! Our goal is dance education, enhancement and expansion; we care about every member and want to make your experience a positive one, so be sure to let us know if you have questions or would like to see any issue addressed in the future.
