Workshops For Teachers and Teacher-Hopefuls

Thinking About Teaching?
Want New Material to Use in Performance or Classwork?

I teach a 4 part Teacher’s Primer workshop series. While I can and do offer movement-specific workshops (see below), most of my focus is on teaching teachers how to see/operate dance as a business, how to deal with students, how to develop your classes or studio for long term survival, how to analyze the technical execution of movement, etc. (I also have a movement vocabulary manual that both supports the movement analysis and I show teachers how to use and fit the manual to their own needs and style of dance, along with multiple student handouts).

This is because I feel there are some good programs already teaching teachers how to teach DANCING, but not as many teaching teachers how to approach dance as a lifelong career…as a business. Of course, part of success is the effort the individual puts into their career, but a lot is also about how to develop a career in the arts in the first place and do it on a professional level.

Part One deals just with the business side of things- from business planning to marketing, from business development opportunities to how to plan against failure.

Part Two covers the Basics: how to develop a lesson plan, how to develop dance standards for a class, how to determine class goals, recording keeping on students, your portfolio, etc.

Part Three focuses on how to develop improv skills in students, advanced ethics training, how to develop and work with a studio troupe, how to plan and execute a recital and hafla, student development planning, etc

Part Four goes into how to develop show productions, choreography development, refining your own understanding of movement, how to form and manage a performance troupe, and beyond.

If you are a teacher who is looking to expand your opportunities or business, if you know of other teachers or teacher-hopefuls, this might be the perfect choice for a group workshop.
